How to ensure your hair looks great this winter
The weather is getting colder and the nights are getting longer: winter has arrived. Sadly, the cold, harsh winter weather can damage your hair. However, you don’t have to just put up with split ends and unmanageable hair throughout winter – we’ve compiled four simple steps you can take to protect your hair during the coldest months of the year.
1. Warm oils and conditioners can help moisturise your hair
There are oils available that you can rub into your hair and scalp which will help prevent your hair from drying out. Conditioners can also help with this and will also protect your hair from breaks and split-ends. The cold winds of winter can really dry hair out, so if you want healthy hair it’s worth investing in both oils and conditioners.
2. Take slightly cooler showers
There’s no denying that hot showers feel great when the weather turns cold. Unfortunately, they can also damage your hair. Of course, you don’t need to take cold showers to protect your hair, but reducing your shower temperature a little can really help keep your hair in good condition. Sometimes, the key to beautiful hair is simply taking warm showers instead of hot ones!
3. Consider wearing a hat
It’s true that wearing a hat can mess up your hairstyle. However, a hat can also defend your hair from cold air, biting winds and precipitation. By wearing a hat, you can keep your hair healthy, regardless of how unpleasant the climate might be. It isn’t necessary to don a hat every time you leave the house during winter, but you should always be prepared to put one on if you’re outside for long periods, or if the weather becomes particularly bad.
4. Allow hair to dry before going outside
After washing or conditioning your hair, you should always allow it to dry thoroughly before going outside during winter. Strands of wet hair can freeze and break off during winter. As such, it’s very important to make sure that your hair has dried adequately before you brave the winter’s chill.
Winter can be tough on your hair, but there’s no need to worry: by using the correct products and taking the proper precautions, you can keep your hair looking stylish and healthy.
